Welcome to the 04 March @boutSeniors enewsletter.
On March 8 it will be exactly 100 years since 15,000 women marched through the streets of New York demanding shorter hours, better pay, and voting rights.
So this week let’s hear it for the girls as we celebrate International Women’s Day and focus on the good work women do - and the support they provide to each other.
In particular we salute the Country Women’s Association - an organisation which has been in existence for more than 70 years – and it’s
still going strong. Enjoy the recipe for a Busy day casserole in Comfort Food from the CWA’s Country Classics cookbook and our apologies to Leesa Chandler whose recipe for Low Fat Curry was mistakenly included without permission in last week’s enews. Leesa also runs a quilting site– and members have full access to her great recipes.
Once, women learnt how to maintain their health and wellbeing from mothers, sisters, grandmothers and girlfriends. Busy lifestyles may mean some of these positive connections have been lost, but advances in technology are delivering women’s health information in
amazing new ways. Bookshelf online this week features Joan Didion’s amazing anthem to her 40-year marriage, and a new anthology of women in rock. Travel Express shares great women’s travel websites and Geoff’s blog ponders the question of Eve.
And this week’s heroine?
As this enews is landing in your inbox, Americans are voting in Primaries in Ohio and Texas. Some are calling this Hillary Clinton’s Alamo. Whether she defies gravity and wins, or bows out gracefully, we can’t help but admire the sheer tenacity and courage of this petite lady who has campaigned tirelessly for months on end.

A little bit country
For over 70 years the Country Women’s Association has made life better for women and children living in rural Australia and their work is just as relevant, if not more so, in these modern times.
Menopausal and fabulous
Like it or not, all women go through menopause. The Jean Hailes Foundation tries to make it a positive experience with its upcoming webcast Life Begins At Menopause?
All that glitters…
Making the decision to enter a retirement village is tough enough without then having to worry about choosing the correct one? James had a very distressing experience with his choice, so read more and be aware.
Weaker sex?
Women may be referred to as the weaker sex but with the assistance of the International Women’s Development Agency, women in some of the poorest countries in the world are showing just what they’re made of.
