Little did we realise when we highlighted some great ways to start researching your family history what a flood of fabulous stories we would be unleashing. From the discovery of an ancestral Scottish castle to memories of Granny’s love of a wee drop to the trail of the hanging judge, you have shared some terrific yarns, and great writing. Read these stories and then pick up that pen or tap those keys. The competition for the five best family stories is open until the end of February.

We have also been inspired by how many of our subscribers just can’t stop clubbing. Two weeks ago we asked you to tell us about your favourite clubs - computer clubs, walking clubs, and U3As featured strongly - and from your responses we have created a short list of the hottest clubs around.

We also appreciated Del’s notification that seniors playgrounds are not just for the German or English seniors – there is one in the making in Queensland, and we enjoyed the many Q&As we received this week on subjects ranging from overseas pensions to finding walking and running groups for older adults.

In sharp contrast to the “bucketing” that Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman’s latest film has received at the hands of the critics, our reviewer, Debbie, maintains the whole cinema was rocking with laughter the night she went… and read about our hero(ine) this week - 38-year-old Australian, Eva Orner, who beat Mike Moore to an Oscar for her documentary on political torture, and special mention to the Slithershanks blog on the advantages of cardboard cutouts over politicians.

Stay inspired
