What AboutSeniors subscribers get for nothing

Welcome to the 14 October 2008 enewsletter

Times are tight and a dollar saved is more important than ever. That’s why this issue we are offering a summary of some features of this site of which you may – or may not – be aware. In essence, www.aboutseniors.com.au is a free website offering resources, information, news updates and free Q&A services on a range of topics of interest to 50+ Australians including health, wealth, travel and work opportunities.
First off we report on today’s news of a Christmas bonus payment for pensioners. Every Tuesday we issue a full Enewsletter which includes updates on ways of maintaining your wellbeing, retirement planning, superannuation and pension changes, new travel destinations, the best travel deals, and specific work possibilities for older Australians. On Friday we distribute a shorter “bulletin” with a specific “how-to” which addresses a topic of interest, as well as a weekend recipe and trivia quiz.
We have also collected on one webpage the most useful and relevant information for those assisting or caring for older parents or relatives. Each week we answer up to 50 questions on health, insurance, Centrelink benefits, Seniors’ Card availability and more. Our webmaster, Drew, highlights the latest in technology, while Debbie reviews the best books and movies.
At all times we try to concentrate on affordable solutions – and share links to sites which we believe are offering no-cost or low-cost options for those on fixed incomes. On the Meeting Place you are invited to tell us whether we have got this right.
But we can’t be serious all the time so, as the general media focus ever more on the falling dollar and slowing economy, we believe it’s time to lighten up, enjoy some more jokes, enter a competition to win a book, DVD, or even a $9,000 trip to India, learn the five ways to stay happy, and have a chuckle over one centenarian’s secret to a long life.

Thank you for being a subscriber

Competitions

Easy to win
We like to keep our competition entries simple, no jumping through hoops to win our great prizes which include
DVDs, travel prizes, movie tickets, magazine subscriptions and much more.

Tell us
For your chance to win a copy of Ballykissangel: Series Five on DVD, tell us what you like or don’t like about our site and of which you would like to see more.

Wellbeing

Your health and wellbeing
There’s plenty of research going on about what’s good for you and what’s bad for you but how much is relevant? We keep you up-to-date with new
breakthroughs in treatments and how to keep fit and healthy.
Your parents
50-something Australians can indeed become a sandwiched generation, juggling work and family demands with the need to know what’s available for ageing parents. AboutSeniors offers a one-stop-shop for those in need.

Getting out there

Live life to the full
There are many events every week around Australia and we like to bring you some of the best, and often free, things to
see and do. If leaving the house is too much effort, then why not try out our daily crossword and sudoku puzzles.
Shop faster and save
Not only have the Aldi supermarkets come up with a way of helping you spend less time at the supermarket, but Aldi's online shopping list will make sure you only buy what you need and can afford.

Government

Keeping you updated
Sometimes keeping track of new initiatives, legislations or benefits that may help you can be difficult. When new legislation is announced, we not only report on it but also try to explain how it
may affect you.
Home care charter
A new Charter of Rights being developed by the Federal Government will give a greater say to residents in the provision of services to the 56,000 older Australians receiving home care.

Movie junction

A night at the movies
Going to the cinema is expensive, so wasting your money on a movie that’s not up to much can be frustrating. Before buying your ticket, or heading to the DVD rental shop, see what we thought of the latest blockbusters and even the
odd classic.
Rockin’ oldies
With the Rolling Stones and AC/DC reforming and hitting the tour circuit in their 60s, there is no doubt that rock music can be enjoyed at any age.
