Time to lighten upWelcome to the 10 October 2008 Friday Bulletin
At last some research which tells us what we've suspected for years - a little sunshine goes a long way toward helping us feel cheerful. Our grandparents and parents generations knew this (it used to be called common sense) so not sure why we let "experts" send us all indoors? We also know that even basic exercise such as walking around the block helps lift our spirits - it's actually impossible to feel really low when you are working up a sweat. So if you live in Victoria maybe you can take your grandchild - or borrow one - and join in the fabulous Thomas the Tank fun run. And to further lighten minds, we are sharing some great jokes, a fun armchair traveller quiz, and the chance to win a fabulous stay at a Mercure hotel in your nearest capital city. Remember, the joke's on you! Sunny outlook For years we've been told that sunbathing may cause cancer but now we are being told that sunshine, or more specifically vitamin D, can actually protect against cancer. Run with ThomasThomas the Tank Engine is a favourite of those young and old. If you're within travel distance of Puffing Billy in Victoria, why not get your grandchildren active, and help raise funds for the Children's Cancer Ward at Monash Medical Centre, by letting them "race" Thomas. | In this issueFriday funnies Whether they make you laugh or groan, hopefully our choice of jokes will go a little way to putting a smile on your face.Healthy choice At AboutSeniors we can be a little naughty with our recipes, they may not always be for those subscribers watching their diet, as AboutSeniors subscriber Sam has pointed out. We've come up with some alternatives for breakfast, lunch and dinner that are healthy, tasty and simple and won't break the bank. Get goingExercise is often overlooked as a very positive antidote to many of the symptoms of depression. The national anti-depression initiative, beyondblue features a comprehensive overview of the benefits of exercise - and how to get started. |
