Fighting off dementia

Welcome to the 12 September 2008 Friday Bulletin

Alzheimer’s Australia will host Dementia Awareness Week from 19-26 September 2008 and this year’s theme will be Mind your mind and is aimed at reducing the risk of dementia by keeping your mind active. There will be many events and activities held across Australia to show you the best way to keep your mind active. Diagnosing dementia is difficult, with many of us, young and old, going through times when we find it difficult to remember the simplest of things. Once diagnosed, suffers can learn to cope, with the help and support of doctors and family, as explained by Di Websdale-Morrisey in Like a thief in the night. Caring for someone with dementia can be just as difficult as suffering from the disease itself. In recognising this, the Australian Government has approved a further $3 million to support the needs of those caring for dementia sufferers. And to help stave off dementia, we’re offering the chance to win a copy of our reviewed book, The Anti-Alzheimer’s Prescription.
