Legal issuesWelcome to the 26 August 2008 enewsletter
This week AboutSeniors is encouraging all our subscribers to take a long, hard look at their financial affairs, and consider whether, should you depart this life sooner rather than later, you are leaving a clear set of instructions – or a nightmare of paperwork and “open-to-interpretation” inheritance misunderstandings.
The fact you may have little to bequeath is not an excuse for failing to record a will, and making lawyers and/or the government rich because you have died intestate is, at least, a waste of your nest egg, and, at worst, incredibly painful for those left behind.
Understanding how Power of Attorney works is a good start, and accessing free community legal centres is another potential avenue for affordable advice.
Family history author, Hazel Edwards, is sharing tips on creating a special eulogy whilst Debbie has reviewed an excellent book on older residents and the law. Webmaster, Drew, is declaring war on messy desktops, while in Comfort Food our favourite barista, Rita, has shared her recipe for Middle Eastern Lamb.
Our Meeting Place is hopping with many comments on a great quote about banks (don’t you just love them…not!) and our movie review features Bonneville, the latest “vehicle” for Jessica Lange.
Our blog this week is not a blog, but a tribute to Andrew Curwood– someone who worked with us briefly, but made a huge impression.
Andrew – we miss you very much.
