Making and saving money online

Welcome to the 12 August 2008 enewsletter

What a week – the Olympics have begun and those who sat up late on Friday night were well rewarded with an extraordinary vision of the
past and future China – a story told in music, dance, calligraphy and technology. This week’s theme is making and saving money online and Debbie & Drew have worked hard to source the best sites around to help you save some hard-earned dollars. One we particularly like offers some real savings on fuel bills, and one which is yet to deliver (did someone mention groceries?) is the subject of much discussion on our Meeting Place

Drew has also been busy reviewing Google Street View and cooking up a storm with his Marvellous Minestrone - is there no end to this lad’s talent, we wonder?

On the subject of money a report presented this week to the Federal Government has suggested that the single Age Pension is not just insufficient, it’s also lower than that available in comparable OECD countries. Did someone say Duh? AboutSeniors has raised the need for an increase repeatedly, yet we are still wondering when this, or any, government will actually do something. Read more detail on the pension report, respond to Kaye’s blog entitled How many reports do we need? or, if you are really hopping mad, send an email to your local member to apply pressure for an increase now – not next year or next century.

And to finish on a lighter note, if you enjoy our cat and cupcake image, read on to learn how you can help a furry friend by baking a cake today.

Warmest wishes
David & Kaye Fallick
