22 July VOL 08 Issue 35

Beijing bound

Welcome to the 22 July AboutSeniors enewsletter.

It's hard to ignore the massive coverage of all things Chinese in the lead up to the Olympic Games which start on that very propitious date, 8.8.2008. Rather than swim against the tide, we agree it is a great time to celebrate all things Chinese, and in the wake of Debbie's recent trip to Beijing, we have rounded up the best of the east ...

So read on, and, in no particular order, learn more about the benefits of Tai Chi and traditional Chinese medicine, great reads including Wild China and Bomb, Book and Compass, make a quick and easy Fried Rice, and explore the latest and best travel deals. The Movie junction review this week is, naturally enough, Children of the Silk Road, where, according to Debbie, the scenery was the real hero.

On a more pragmatic note, we remind subscribers of rent assistance benefits available from Centrelink, and Drew outlines ways to overcome annoying spam - or save AboutSeniors enewsletters from going to spam when you really want them in the inbox!

Our new Word a Day page has been a big hit - and we love the arcane and obscure words which have poured in from subscribers - read our favourite so far, and keep sending them in - we will share all next week.

And our home-town hero this week is Greg Norman - an active 53-year-old who nearly grabbed the big prize at the British Open. Sadly for Norman, he was pipped at the post by Irishman, Padraig Harrington, but he certainly gave the 36-year-old a run for his money.
