22 January VOL 08 Issue 2

Make 2008 your best year yet

Welcome to the 22 January @boutSeniors enewsletter.

There's an all too common (and very sad) inclination to view ageing as a time of loss – loss of function, mobility, opportunity, and faculties. But research consistently reveals that many older people have far higher levels of contentment than their younger counterparts. Perhaps the fact that we become more accepting of reality as we age has something to do with these contentment levels? Acceptance is a fabulous quality, but it's also important not to let acceptance stand in the way of the opportunity to reinvent ourselves on an annual basis.

There is so much fun to be had, so many new skills to acquire, and new friends to make. This issue we highlight opportunities to help you make 2008 your best year yet – whether you start a blog, join a computer club, hit the dating scene, see a career counsellor, start your transition to retirement, learn to play golf or cure the clutter habit forever, read on for inspiration, tips and resources to make that start now. And for those who despair of how to afford a better year, stay tuned for next week's enews featuring many ways of living on less.

All the best
David and Kaye Fallick

Bookshelf online

Your best year ever
Jinny Ditzler's book on making your next 12 months your best ever is one of my favourite reads. It's short, practical and eminently doable. Take three hours timeout now, read this book, and turn your dreams into a concrete plan for 2008.

Curing the clutter habit
Ever wish a professional organiser would just come in and clear your mess, creating an organised, functional and peaceful home in his or her wake? I sure have, so when Judi Culbertson's The Clutter Cure landed on my desk, I thought my wishes had been answered.
