22 April VOL 08 Issue 16

The Australian Spirit

Welcome to the 22 April @boutSeniors enewsletter.

In true Australian fashion, Kaye and David are off exploring a far flung corner of the globe - Peru, and we look forward to hearing all about their travels on their return.

Our inspiration this week can only be taken from the ANZACs and the amazing spirit they showed, far from home, fighting for their countries. 25 April is ANZAC Day and all over Australia we celebrate the courage and spirit of a nation, whether attending a Dawn Service or making a batch of David's ANZAC biscuits. Some take the Australian spirit even further, with runners from Melbourne Fire Brigade participating in the Great ANZAC Run and others giving up their time to help refugees settle in our wonderful country. As we remember the ANZACs, surely it's time to stop fighting each other and work together for a better world, Geoff certainly thinks so, read his blog.

The issue of Australia as a republic featured heavily in Kevin Rudd's 2020 Summit at the weekend. What do you think - should Australia sever ties with the Monarchy? Enter our poll for the chance to win a copy of Ballykissangel on DVD. Find out more about the other ideas tabled at the summit. Give all Australians a fair go and get your point across with Australia Fair.

Thank you once again to all our visitors and subscribers who continue to share our site with friends. We have copies of our war-themed review books, Clara's War and My Father's Country, as well as copies on DVD of Housewife 49, the inspirational tale of an ordinary housewife, living in extraordinary times. Simply recommend @boutSeniors to a friend to enter the draw.

If you want to find out what Australians get up to when traveling, read Susie's news from The Big Apple, or check out the great offer from Adina and enjoy Australian art in Berlin. For those of you put off visiting Tibet due to the recent political unrest, India offers a calming alternative. Now's the time to plan for ANZAC Day 2009 and experience the Dawn Service at Galliopoli with APT's ANZAC Cruise. Or if you are looking for something sooner, take your better half for half at Club Med, Lindeman.

Keep the Australian spirit alive,
Debbie and Drew
