Writing, Proofing & Editing

Spare time?

Got some free time on your hands? Why not put it to good use by correcting electronically translated text? Leigh, an AboutSeniors subscriber has came across a great way to keep idle hands busy.
When searching for information about family history, times gone past or researching a specific topic, old archives of records and newspapers are invaluable. However, as these can be stored on the other side of the world, accessing them may not be easy.

The National Library of Australia has undertaken a program to digitise out-of-copyright newspapers, allowing an easy-to-access online search facility to be created. Volunteers are required to correct the translated text, and you can do as little or as much as you desire. And just think of the fun you can have reading all the news of days gone by.
For more information, visit the National Library of Australia.

Volunteers wanted

If you are passionate about books, writing and ideas and have some spare time this August, help get the show on the road by volunteering at The Melbourne Writers Festival.

Volunteers are crucial to the success of the festival, with people needed to man the box office, usher, run the schools program, event management and drive the authors to name but a few tasks on offer. This year, as the festival continues to grow, 200 volunteers are required.  If you have a real interest in books and the people who write them, this is a great opportunity to get involved.  To register an interest in becoming a volunteer, you can contact Jane Dickenson at or complete the application form on the website.
