Grandparents leave

There is a push by the ACT Government to initiate grandparental leave for its public servants. This is excellent recognition of the greater role grandparents are playing in the upbringing of children.

The ACT could offer up to 12 months unpaid leave for grandparents to look after grandchildren up to the age of two. This means they can enjoy the time with their little loved ones without fear of losing their job.

If this idea goes through, the ACT would be the first jurisdiction in Australia to introduce such a measure. Earlier in the year, St George bank introduced grandparental leave for its employees. May the idea catch on (like Equine flu!).
